The Apollo 1 tragedy, which occurred on January 27, 1967, resulted in the loss of three astronauts: Command Pilot Gus Grissom, Senior Pilot Ed White, and Pilot Roger B. Chaffee. The crew perished due to a cabin fire during a launch rehearsal test at Cape Kennedy Air Force Station Launch Complex 34.
Following the accident, the remains of the Apollo 1 astronauts were recovered intact from the command module.
